I've downloaded the free version of DelftShip to get a taste of drafting with the intent of getting laser output for forms such as those in the whaleboat project plus an initial stab at layouts for starting points for spiling strakes. I'm using the offsets for the Herreshoff Dinghy as my first experiment/victim. I have two questions, two of terminology and one of method. The Herreshoff plans (drafted at the Mystic museum) refer to a line called the "apex line," which appears on my multigenerational photocopies to be a line that more or less approximates the shape of the rabbett plus the segment of the centerline that runs up to the top of the transom. Is that close to correct, or does "apex line" refer to the outside line of the profile, keel and all, or even something else? The Delftship software refers to something called the "contour." This appears to be approximately the same as the apex line that approximates the rabbett on the Herreshoff plans plus the sheer. Does anyone know if that is approximately correct? Now the method question: Has anyone managed to successfully import a table of offsets? I've adhered to their format, but it tells me I have a read error. I'm assuming that's user error rather than software error since most errors usually are mine. Thank you. Lain

There are two text files included, try loading them. I believe there has to be the same number of entries in each row and you have to add some zero entries when you don't have all the intercepts like at the bow and stern. Also FreeShip is still available and you might want to try it also. Ed
